Peacefully at his home in Appin, on June 9th, 2020 with his loving family by his side, Ronald Ellwyne Carruthers was reunited with his loved ones in heaven. Predeceased by his loving parents, William Ellwyne Carruthers and Wilma Mable Carruthers (Richardson), and his loving parents-in-law, Don and Kay Gillies. Survived by his loving wife Pat (Gillies) of 55 years. Dear father of Debi (Darryl) Feasey, Rob (Laura) Carruthers, and proud “Pa” to Brennan, Shantaya, Quinn and Scotia. Ron was idolized by his loving and caring sister Marjorie Zavitz, loved by his late brother in-law, Harold Zavitz, cherished by sister in-law Bonnie McEachren and brother in-law Randy Gillies. Caring uncle to Sherri Zavitz (Terry) Mackenzie and Grayson Graham, Wendy (Darin) Jackson and Eliza Vojin, Shana McEachre, Katie and Finn Crawford, Lara McEachren, Emma, CJ and Danica Howe, David, Tennille, Mason and Sammy McEachren, Kara, Tom, Rowen, Leo Bukacek. Ron lived in Appin for 79 years where he was loved and admired by his family, neighbours and friends. He was truly one of a kind. Ron was simply a stellar gentleman, husband, father, pa, brother, brother in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. He will always be remembered for his one-liners, selflessness, care and compassion for others, unconditional love for his family, and love for travel. Ron had a passion for many sports including baseball, hockey, hunting and fishing. Ron was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge and served in 1993 as Worshipful Master of Lorne Lodge #282 Glencoe. He was also an active member of the Appin Presbyterian Church, a Councillor of Ekfrid Township, and served on many boards within the community, demonstrating his dedication to his small town heritage. Anyone who was privileged to be a part of Ron’s life knew very well that he had a natural ability to find a way to connect and chat with anyone passing by. His energy made others always feel welcome and at home. He truly brightened the lives of many. During this unprecedented situation with Covid-19, it is with heavy hearts that our family must respect the current protocols regarding physical distancing. As a result, there will be a celebration of life at a later date, to be announced when it is safe to do so.
