Peacefully surrounded by family at Parkwood Hospital on Friday, November 16, 2012. Beloved husband of Edna (Blain). Loving Father of Wayne (Jan), Mike (Deb), Bonnie Walls (Michael) and Stepfather of Marie McNaughton (Dan), Charlie (Deanna), Bev Kelly (Ron) and Dan Blain. Dearest Papa to 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren and 18 great step grandchildren. A much-loved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his first wife of 41 years Kathleen (1986), his infant son Robert William (1947), his brothers Albert, George, Lawrence, Oliver Abbott and sister Florence Seafoot and his daughter-in-law Lorrie Abbott. Born July 4th 1924 in Robsart, Sask. He was a member of The Canadian Army, served overseas based out of London, England. After the war he settled in Newbury where he was a valued member of his community working in the insurance business for 35 years. He was a member of the volunteer fire department, belonged to the IOOF, Masonic Lodge, treasurer of Christ Church Newbury, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 583, where he was a life member and a recipient of The Palm Leaf award. Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will be received at the Van Heck Funeral Home, 172 Symes Street, Glencoe on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21st at Christ Church Newbury. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Phil are asked to consider Christ Church Newbury, Parkwood Hospital or a charity of your choice. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 583 will conduct a service Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
