Marie Bazeley

Surrounded by the love of her family, Helen “Marie” Bazeley (nee Carr) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 5,  2018, four days passed her 92ndbirthday at Elgin Manor, St. Thomas. Marie was born on September 1, 1926 in Oil City, but lived the majority of her life in Sarnia and Alvinston and most recently St. Thomas as of January 2015.  Beloved wife of the late Ivan Bazeley (2011) and loving mother of the late Terry Bazeley (2016).  Cherished mother of Connie Stinchcombe (Mike) of London and Wendy Evans (Bob) of St. Thomas. Adored grandmother of Jennifer Hansen, Craig Stinchcombe (Lisa), Lee Bazeley (Felicity), Sue Glassford,  Chris Evans (Leigh) and Paul Evans (Candice). Doting great-grandmother of Brad and Eve Hansen, Matthew and Kailee Glassford, A.J. and Sidney Stinchcombe, and Will Bazeley.  Marie was one of five children of the late Harold & Bessie Carr.  She was predeceased by her siblings Betty Lines, Ailene McCallum and Murray Carr.  She is survived by her sister Kay Greenaway (Lawrence) of Point Edward. Fondly remembered by her aunt Jean Wilson and many nieces and nephews.  Mom was a proud life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 249. While residing in Alvinston, she had many friends and took great pleasure in playing cards convening card parties and luncheons, and enjoyed Friday lunches with the “girls”.  She was a wonderful knitter and her gifts were treasured by her friends and family.  Family was everything to Mom and one of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing cards and board games where she proved to be a fierce competitor.  They felt their grandmother possessed the following qualities: “cared deeply for family and friends”, “she was tough, resilient, kind & selfless”, “had a keen sense of humour, was clever, loved games and socializing”, “had good camaraderie with people, was very generous, was a lover of sweets which she always shared”, “she loved to laugh”, “she was strong, kind & compassionate and loving”, “family was everything to Grandma”, “sweet, kind, caring, lovable, strong, gentle”. Mom faced many medical challenges over the years but remained positive, determined and optimistic.  She relied on her inner strength and sense of humour to deal with the many hurdles she experienced.  She lived her life with grace and dignity.  She knew she was loved.  With love and gratitude the family wishes to thank the staff at Metcalfe Gardens (2015-2018) and Elgin Manor (May to September 2018) for the kind, patient and compassionate care given to our amazing Mom.  Many expressed she was a joy to care for. Friends will be received at St. Hilda’s – St. Luke’s Anglican Church (Elm Street, St. Thomas) on Friday, September 7thfrom 7-9 pm.  Funeral to take place at Van Heck Funeral Home, 3232 River St Alvinston on Saturday September 8that 11 a.m.  Visitation one hour prior.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada, Parkinson Canada or Heart & Stroke Foundation.  Love you forever
