Peacefully at his home, in Glencoe, on Thursday, January 13, 2022, R. Douglas Gilliland passed away in his 79th year with his loving wife and family by his side. Finally at peace after a lengthy battle with Parkinson Disease. Doug enjoyed being self-employed until the age of 74 with support of his wife and family. His early life was spent farming, truck driving and later years in the mobile food business at carnivals and Christmas tree sales in Toronto. Doug was a hardworking, funny, loving husband and soulmate to wife Shirley (O’Neil) Gilliland. He enjoyed country dancing, playing cards, dominos, camping and traveling with family and friends. Great memories! Born in Petrolia and resided in the area in early years and Glencoe was his home the past 37 years. Doug is survived by his loving, caregiver wife Shirley, children Jodie, Jason and John, grandchildren Mike (Tasha), Michael and Justine, great-grandchildren Hailey, Ethen and Emma. He is also survived by his sister Marion Blue as well as nieces and nephews. Doug will be dearly missed by many friends, especially Linda and Bob Sheridan who shared and supported our family over the past 40 years. Yes, angels do exist! Predeceased by his parents Robert Gordan Gilliland, mother Pearl (Gilliland) Bryce and step-father Bob Bryce. Cremation with a private celebration of life to be held later.
