Smith, Bernie Cecil
It is with great emotion for the loss of our loving father, Bernie Cecil Smith of Glencoe and formerly of Watford passed away at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on Friday, May 18, 2012 in his 97th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Mildred Olive (Johnson) Smith February 22, 2010. Survived by his daughters; Bernice Shamblow (Bob) of Tecumseh, Beverly Van Horn of London, Bonnie Smith-Blatchford (Edward) of London, Brenda Heywood (Dale) of Amherstburg, his 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Gladys Saunders (late Irving) of Sarnia, Ollie and Shirley Johnson, Clayton and Dorothy Johnson, Ileen Johnson (late Harold) all of Petrolia, Dorothy Perkins of Forest, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by son Bobby and his parents Harold and Edith Smith, brother Dave (Ileen) Smith, sister Myrtle (Jack) Carruthers and in-laws; Stanley (Beatrice) Johnson, Blanche (Ken) Mansfield, Doris (Oscar) Saunders, Frank (Winnifred) Johnson. We will miss playing euchre with him, listening to him whistle, singing songs and giving one-liners. Bernie was a custodian at Ekcoe Public School for 20 years. Relatives and friends will be received at the Van Heck Funeral Home, 172 Symes St., Glencoe on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 24 at 11 am. Interment to follow at the Watford Cemetery. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 219 will conduct a service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.
