Francis Eileen Ramey (formerly Scott, nee Watson) passed away peacefully in her home near Glencoe, Ontario 20 January 2014, aged 86.Eileen was born on 18 September 1927 at her family’s farm house in Newbury, Ontario.She was the fifth child of Edward & Mabel Watson.Growing up on the farmstead she milked cows, made butter and learned to knit.The coal oil lamps were cleaned on Saturday nights before bath time so they would all be ready for church.Eileen was working as a telephone operator in Glencoe when she met navy veteran Gordon Scott.They were married on 10 July 1948 in Calgary, Alberta, and had four children: Cheryl, Larry, Rhonda and Calvin.Eileen was widowed on February 23, 1958, when Gordon was killed by a drunk driver.She returned to Glencoe to raise her children close to family.Eileen married Frank Ramey on December 27th, 1965, with whom they had a son, Bradley.Along with being a master with the crochet hook and an uncanny card shark, Eileen was also a nurse. She loved caring for babies and the elderly.Though grief-stricken after the loss of Gordon, Eileen soldiered on. She surrounded herself with family, and traveled thousands of miles on the Greyhound to visit her children and grandchildren. She always attended weddings and graduations.When she could not visit for Christmas, one could count on suitcases smelling of Estee Lauder to arrive full of treasures, including antiques, afghans, baby booties and instant coffee.She loved her numerous cats and dogs, politics on TV and road trips to the casino.She prayed daily. She volunteered for the Legion, Elections Canada and the Lions. She raised money for many charities.Eileen now joins her dearly departed husbands Gordon and Frank, and her deceased son, Larry. They have a full Euchre table now (careful, everyone: she likes to call diamonds).She is survived by a large family, including 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.A memorial service will be held at a later time.Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to MADD Canada and the Huntington Society of Canada.
