Henry Zwambag

It is with great sadness that in his 96th year, Henry Cornelius Zwambag formerly of Glencoe, surrounded by family passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Sprucedale Care Centre, Strathroy. Predeceased by his wife Anna (Van Buren) Zwambag September 19, 2014. Left to mourn his passing are his 9 children, Bill (Mary Anne) of Glencoe, Tony (late Mareen) (2014) of Crediton, Glenda of Houston, Texas, Margo (Jim) Cowie of Caledonia, Henry (Nancy Sander) of Kitchener, Ed (Valerie) of Crossfield, Alberta, Gerald (Anja) of Glencoe, Joe (Mary Catherine) of Smithville and Rosanne (George) Ryan of Newmarket. He was very proud and loved all of his 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sister-in-law Joke (Verhoof) Zwambag and by brothers and sisters-in-law all of the Netherlands. Predeceased by his parents Gerard Vonk and William Zwambag and brothers Wim and Herman. Henry was born in Schalkwijk, the Netherlands on August 19, 1924 and married the love of his life, Anna Van Buren on February 10, 1953 and immigrated to Canada that same year. They lived in Harrow, Chatham and Mull and then in 1959 they bought their farm at Glencoe and lived there until April 2014 when Seasons Strathroy became their new home. Henry moved to Sprucedale Care Centre August 2018. He enjoyed many family functions with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, farming and also working with Victor and Margaret at Appin Abattoir. Henry was always the life of the party whether it was family, church, community or friends. Visitation will be Sunday, December 8 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Van Heck Funeral Home, 172 Symes street, Glencoe. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Garnier Church, 244 Stella Ave., Glencoe on Monday, December 9 at 10 a.m. Rev. Thomas Blondin officiating. Family interment to follow at North American Martyrs Cemetery, Wardsville. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to North American Martyrs Cemetery, Sprucedale Care Centre or the Ontario 4-H Foundation (Middlesex).
